1. Therapy Supports
Therapeutic intervention focuses on practical, meaningful skills and participation across life domains within specific goal areas identified. As a Developmental Educator (DE), therapy is delivered through a blend of educational and therapeutic approaches - supporting learning, self-development, and behaviour change in everyday contexts.
What this looks like in practice:
Direct 1:1 sessions between DE and client, with a focus on skill development within agreed goal areas
A semi-structured approach learning in real‑life settings (home, work, community)
Development and implementation of individualised therapy plan
Regular review of progress, with strategies adjusted as needs, goals or contexts change
2. Capacity Building
At Green Ant, we recognise that capacity building often needs to go beyond 1:1 therapeutic sessions to create meaningful, lasting change. Capacity building supports take a broader, ‘big picture’ approach, focusing not only on the individual client, but also on their environment, support teams and broader community.
What this looks like in practice:
Working with clients alongside their families, carers, and support teams to develop skills, strategies, and routines that are applied across home, work, and community settings
Building the capability of support networks… providing coaching, guidance, and mentoring so that everyone involved can support the person at the centre effectively
Active participation on the broader support team (e.g. participation in stakeholder meetings, working
collaboratively with other supports involved)Making environmental adjustments and implementing systems to remove barriers and promote
inclusion, participation, and independenceSupporting self-advocacy, decision-making, and choice - and promoting change to enable this
where neededMonitoring and reviewing progress in collaboration with the person and their network, adapting
strategies as needs, goals or contexts change
3. Assessment & Recommendation Reports
Assessment activities and/or recommendation reports are about gaining a holistic understanding of the person and their environment to support meaningful participation, independence and quality of life. As a Developmental Educator, assessments are person-centred, flexible, and tailored to the purpose and audience, using a variety of tools and approaches.
What this looks like in practice:
Determining the purpose and audience of an assessment and/or report, ensuring it meets the needs of the person, families, support teams, or funding bodies (e.g. the NDIS) and
Using a broad range of assessment tools and methods to understand the an individual’s strengths, needs, interests, and the environmental factors that act as enablers or barriers to a fulfilling life
Employing person-centred, holistic and strengths-based approaches to assessment and reporting… recognising the importance surrounding clients own perspectives, experiences, values, and aspirations
Providing practical recommendations that can inform support planning, progress monitoring, risk
management and funding decisionsSupporting understanding of the whole person, promoting self-awareness, independence, and quality
of lifeCollaborating with clients and support networks to implement strategies and review progress,
ensuring recommendations are realistic, meaningful, and sustainable
